Firehouse Friends

Playgroup turned into a field trip yesterday when our bike ride along the Embarcadero led us to a fire station. The firemen answered lots of questions from curious five year-olds and gave them a chance to ring the truck's bell. The kiddos were sent on their way, junior firefighter hats in hand, and dinner at the Ferry Building was enjoyed by all.

Charmed Life

Surrounded by sweet children in sweet surroundings on a beautiful
Saturday. Hard to beat.

Oh Hip Hopping We Will Go

Mia's dance season kicked off this week, with Hip-Hop/Jazz and Musical Theater II.  She loves the new uniform (so grown up compared to the tutus of last year's sessions) and enjoyed learning some new moves.  Teagan, for her part, is lobbying hard for a toddler version of these classes and can be found getting down in the hallway outside the dance studio.  Perhaps they need a pint-sized mascot?

Morning Madness

Waking up early for school, as it turns out, is not our household's strong suit (David's early bird tendencies excepted). We can be found scrambling most mornings, trying our best not to make Mia late for kindergarten. Here are Mia and Teagan, caught in a brief pause in our otherwise frantic morning routine.

Dirt Girl

A favorite book around the Corey house is the story of Dirt Boy, a little boy who loved being dirty so much and hated baths so much that he turned into a mysterious monster of sorts named Dirt Boy.  Mia did her best to add the female companion piece to that tale, as she went "hunting" in the yard for mushrooms and other assorted treasures.  A little dirt can be pretty after all.

High Five

The Girl On The Trapeze

Teagan spent some time in a gymnastics class this week. She loved the trapeze/swing contraption and getting out some of her considerable energy. Next stop, circus auditions.

Yes, She's Ready

As it turns out, if you are having trouble locating Teagan at bedtime on Sunday night, she can be found watching the Steelers getting pummeled by the Broncos. Football season has officially kicked off.

California Rock and Roll

Somehow, this video escaped the blog:

Adventures of Goggle Girl

Teagan's preferred head adornment is not a hat, but a pair of her sister's goggles.  Last night, the two girls played their favorite post-dinner game: chase.  This version took on comic book flair, as Goggle Girl appeared out of nowhere to take on our beloved princess.  Who was the victor?  We'll let you decide:

Blinking Eyes, Again.

Teagan currently enjoys blinking her eyes for us and lifting her shirt to closely examine her sizeable belly.  Here is a video of her doing the former, much like Big Sis did here.

And They're Off!

The Corey Girls took Marin schools by storm today. Mia, decked out in an outfit acquired during a daddy/daughter shopping trip, began kindergarten. She was beyond excited as we walked toward her class, declaring "this is so awesome!". Ever enthusiastic, Mia described with glee a day filled with old and new friends, PE, art, music, books, circle time, recesss and even some free play. Teagan began her mini-preschool, a side-by-side weekly class with Mom at the local Jewish Community Center. Nestled in the eucalyptus trees, the class connects Teagan with others her age in outside play, indoor play, and introduces concepts like circle time and sitting at a table for snacks. She loved watching Brown Bear reenacted on a felt board and could have played with the parachute all day.

Thankfully, the kids were all smiles after their first days. Ice cream cones only added to the joy.

Exit Princess, Enter ... Prada?

Auntie Christie was in town this weekend and an afternoon trip to pick up a new pair of shoes for Mia ended up as a day of retail indoctrination from the original Shopaholic. I see my future (credit card bills) and I am frightened.
