Take Me Out to the Ballgame

The continued indoctrination of Mia into a sportsfan continues, with our playgroup organizing the kids' first Giants game (can you hear the Corey Padres fans groaning?). The babies weren't so interested in the action on the field, but Mia enjoyed her pretzel and all of the flags swirling around.

In other news, Grandma and Alexis are in town for the next couple of weeks and already, much is happening. Little Miss Mia took some first, very reluctant, steps yesterday! She is still falling more than anything else, but it was very exciting. Video to come, I hope!

Mia- Too Exciting to Photograph?

Ugh- I just noticed how few posts I have this month. Part of this can be attributed to my laziness, I'm sure. But the bulk of the blame goes to the Little One, who is too busy to sit and be photographed these days. So much of life with an almost-one-year old is captured less by a camera than by my own memory that stores all of the special little fleeting moments that comprise any given day. Any one thing seems insignificant -- a neighborhood walk, for example -- so the camera stays home. Which means that all the new things that happen escape the blog. Like the way she laughs and smiles as I allow her hands to pass through every bush, flower or tree that crosses our path. Or the way she thinks everybody is around to see HER -- a fact she acknowledges with big grins and lots of waving. Everything is a guided tour these days. She points at anything and everything, making her little "DAT" noise every time. I even took her to the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art this week for the sole purpose of giving her something new to point at -- and, boy, is a museum of wacky art ever the perfect venue for such an activity! The only thing more exciting than a museum might be the arrival of Daddy, which creates such a state of excitement in Mia that I wonder if she might explode. She "runs" (and by that I mean crawls disturbingly fast) over to the gate at the top of the stairs, awaiting the sound of his footsteps. Once he starts walking upwards, Mia starts bouncing like crazy and making lots of happy noises, until she sees his face and the "Daddy, Dada, Daddy!!!"' noises start. Then she launches into a big, mysterious story where I imagine she is telling him all about her exciting day, while she nuzzles him and lovingly pats him on his chest. So cute. And yet no photos!

So, my sincere apologies. I have taken some videos that I'll get up and posted soon. They include some footage of Mia swimming, eating, shaking her head, and all sorts of earth shattering stuff.

Grammy Corey just left and Mia's other Grandma (along with Cousin Alexis) is on her way. And don't look now, but that first birthday is nearly around the corner.

ignore the double post -- the text should appear more recently here...but deleting the post deletes the photos, too.

North Carolina or Bust

Don't despair, Dear Readers, we've not forgotten about you. Mia and I ventured eastward for a family reunion (the Semancik side of the family tree) in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. The weather was hot and sunny, except for those times when we were supposed to be in an airplane (at which point the thunderstorms rolled in). Mia got in tons of quality time with Grandma and Pap-Pap, as well as the rest of her extended family. She loved watching the big kids, of which there were many. Second cousin, Jenna, who is about two weeks older, gave her plenty of lessons on how to get walking. Still no first steps, but I sense we are pretty close. Mia is now doing some solo standing, as well as walking with only one hand in mine, and she is getting a bit more fearless about plunging herself forward. The only downside of North Carolina was a week without David -- but Daddy was a sight for sore eyes at the airport after a LONG day of driving and flying. Mia kicked and squealed and smiled for her Dada as soon as he pulled up curbside at SFO. The reception for Otter when we got home was only slightly more subdued.

Here are some more photos from our trip.
