Like a Fish

David joined us at swim class today and we brought along the Flip to capture some of Mia's latest moves, including her dive to the bottom to pick up a ring and her talented knack for not listening to her teacher when she sees a chance to swim into the open water. I have a hunch about what part of the new house she will like best. Hint: it is a big hole that contains a lot of liquid.

The Thinker

Mia strikes a very Rodin-like pose at lunch today. She is currently deep in thought in her bed, though I would prefer she'd be deeply in sleep.

All in a Day's Work

Admittedly, taking care of a toddler has its perks. Especially when temperatures approach 70 degrees while playing at Crissy Field. Here are Mia, another Mia, Riley and Ridgely, soaking it all in.

Princess of the Outdoors

Very sunny skies forced Princess Mia to take her show outdoors this weekend. Her taste for inappropriately fancy dresses was not shaken by the fear of public derision, and after all the adoring comments she received from hikers and runners at Phoenix Lake yesterday, I have a feeling her love for the frilly has only been heightened.

Meanwhile, the local nonprofit theater presented Mary Poppins this afternoon. Mia and her buddy, Colton, sat enthralled for all of the lengthy production. Their moms were pretty entertained, too. We gave their uncontrollable giggles while Mary and crew sang Supercalifragilisticxpladocious two thumbs up.

Peace Be With You

Otter's collar cracked, requiring a trip to the pet store for a replacement. Mia served as Otter's personal stylist and came up with this peaceful option. Rainbow peace signs around our dog's neck? Guess we really are Marin residents.

Lucky Ducks

At the plaza that contains the Tutu School, there is a pair of ducks who hang out in the fountain. Never before have I seen such a domesticated duo -- they gently take crackers right out of our hands. Judging from their friendly nature, I'm guessing Mia isn't the only ballerina dropping by to see them post-class. Perhaps they'll join us indoors for our next twirling session. I think they would look lovely in some pink leotards.

Good Night, Sweetheart

Mia was on fire tonight -- maybe her comedic skills will get her a scholarship to clown school someday? She decided we should pretend we were going to sleep. I am sleeping on the couch and she is set up in Otter's bed. My favorite parts include her "reading" me a book, which is an empty DVD case, her thoughtful Spanish, and, most of all, her final instruction. For those who don't speak fluent Mia-ese, she is saying, "Hey, Sweetheart. Go night night." No, this is not our customary closing line to her when we tuck her in at bedtime.
