You're Never Fully Dressed Without A Smile -- And Some Garland

Yes, Mia is wearing some kind of garland/headband/tiara thing and yes, it's May. The larger question: does this surprise anybody?

What's In A Name?

Here's Teagan checking herself out in the mirror post-bath. Grandma Glasgow has taken to calling her Button, given her "cute as" status, and Sister Mia thinks we should call her Cheeks. After last night's all evening party, I think her parents might want to call her Miss Nocturnal.

(Also, for the baby book portion of this blog, Teagan rolled over front to back yesterday.)

Mia vs. Dive

Mia finally won this epic battle and claimed the white ribbon today at swim class. She had to accomplish six tasks for this level: tread water for 60 seconds, swim 16 feet underwater, swim without goggles, get rings at six feet depth, swim 38 feet with up faces (nickname for coming up for air) and dive from the deck. The first five had been checked off for some time, but the dive was far trickier for our little mermaid. But she tried and tried and practiced and practiced and -- yay! -- did it today. We are very proud of all of her effort. Go Mia!

Tummy Time Times Two

Being forced to lay on your belly is made infinitely easier when you get to look into Big Sister Mia's eyes.

Mommy Talk

So much for baby talk -- it is Lara who has a hard time quieting in this video.

Little Miss Sunshine

A lovely way to start the day.

Rain Rain Don't Go Away

On a dreary, cold and wet day this week, when Mia and I were scheduled to have our special time together, we headed to a mani/pedi place and had our nails done. As one might imagine, she was blown away by the experience, if ever so slightly disappointed little girls aren't allowed to have their feet dipped in the hot water or subjected to the salt scrub. With a fun time like this, she might never want the sunshine to appear again.

Baby Sitting

Teagan approves of the Bumbo. Of course, Little Miss Happy is equally ecstatic staring at a wall, so her smiles might not be all that discriminating.

Life Imitating Big Sister

Teagan is already trying to act like Mia, doing her best to sit on the couch with her.

She's quite happy about it:

Until she realized she was missing a sock:

Oh Teagan

A Hair Do

This is the state of Mia's hair as of late. A little crazy, a lot messy, a bit of a pain:

This morning, despite months of insisting she wanted to keep it long, we walked by the hair salon and she declared she was ready for a cut. Yay! Much improved:

Teagan, many many many months away from thoughts of a haircut, will make do with her frilly hat:

Snug As a ... Burrito With a Hat?

Having acquired roughly $10 billion worth of blankets, bassinets, bouncy chairs, etc., this is Teagan's preferred sleeping aid: a swaddle blanket with a hood. Cozy and warm it may be, but I doubt Anna Wintour will be pounding down our doors for Teagan's fashion tips. We'll leave that domain to her big sister.

Blog Jam

Here are some videos taken with my phone that haven't made it to the blog. Enjoy them, in their incoherent and disconnected entirety.

This is footage of Mia learning how to do freestyle (bonus points if you can figure out which swimmer is her!):

Feeling Happy and Fancy

Here's how our mornings have been starting around these parts, with a cheerful, smiling Teagan:

On Tuesdays, ever since Little Sister arrived, Mia and I have some special Mia/Mama time. Today, Mia was very adamant about having a fancy dinner together at the fancy restaurant with the mermaids on the ceiling (preschool speak for Mom wearing a dress and going to the Cheesecake Factory). I indulged her and put on a dress first time post-pregnancy (they are not the most breastfeeding-friendly garments) and even complied with a request that we wear necklaces. Otter couldn't resist jumping into our photo:

And in case you were wondering, ice cream is a required conclusion to any fancy dinner.

Double Trouble?

Both at two months:

Well, we at least know which is the bigger ham:

The Newest Corey!

Our beautiful niece, Avery, joined us yesterday and we couldn't be happier to have her as an addition to our growing pile of cousins.

Cole and Mia entertained each other in the hospital with stuffed animals and iPhone games:

The two "big" cousins admirably played their roles of proud big sister and brother:

And, the foursome together:
Avery weighed in at six pounds, seven ounces. This puts her three ounces ahead of two-month-older cousin, Teagan, and one ounce behind Mia. Cousin Cole was the tiniest of the bunch at five and a half pounds. Watch out, Cole, I think you're outnumbered!

Party Girl Turns Two Months -- Happy Cinco de Mayo!

Teagan, who entered the world in pure social butterfly style on a Saturday night (two days fashionably late!), turns two months today -- appropriately enough on May 5th. Happy Cinco de Mayo, amigos.

Here's some video. No check-up today, so I'm not sure of the stats, but I suspect we are nearing eleven pounds. We've also made great progress it getting her to sleep on her own and in longer stretches. We'll party to that.

Ice Cream Weather

Summer has officially arrived, and not only because it was in the 80s today. (As an aside, Mia declared her soft serve "fancy" because it was swirly.)

Put A Ring On It

Teagan has discovered she can hold things. She has also, for the record, started to be okay not being in a human's arms for sleep! As proof, she is snoozing comfortably next to me right now and I can -- for the first time in ages, it seems -- type with two hands. Let's hope this is behavior is extremely habit forming.

Tea(gan) Sandwiches

We are at least a few months away from Teagan sitting, but using a couple of pillows for support, we can at least show she has mastered the milestone of being cute for the camera.

Dressed to Impressed

Perhaps inspired by the recent royal wedding, Mia spent a good thirty minutes getting dressed pre-dinner and emerged from her room with this ensemble. In case you were wondering, she is wearing 1) Snow White dress; 2) two (plastic) necklaces; 3) Dora crown; 4) fancy sparkly "princess" shoes; 5) one of Mom's rings; and 6) pink lip gloss (thanks, Joanne!). She was maybe a little disappointed when it turned out we were eating just regular ol' fish sticks and peas, even if we used fancy plates.
