Halloween and Peekaboo Fun

Mia's playgroup got dressed for Halloween today. Here and here are a few photos -- Mia is the pumpkin on the couch and the girl in brown stripes on the floor (not the most feminine of her outfits). They were all so adorable together. How about that lion costume, made by one of the boy's grandmothers...pretty ambitious!

The first clip below is of Mia's favorite changing table game, peekaboo with the zebra on her quilt. It is kind of long, but she was cracking me up. The second clip is of her new "trick" of grabbing rings and pulling them to her mouth to explore. Both my hair and necklace have fallen victim to the crazy Mia grip.

Chatterbox

I'm loving the video feature on the camera, now that Mia is making more intentional noises directed at her toys and at us. She has a knack for quieting down when she sees the camera (witness the first video, which I'm posting because I love the look on her face when she thinks Mom is attacking her with the phone). I captured a couple more sounds (and a smile!) on the second clip.

Big day for Lara -- I'm getting a haircut. Finally.

Happy Feet

Mia and her second cousin, Jenna (only a week and a half older), had some fun together dancing and smiling while Aunt Kelly entertained them. It only took three plane rides to get there, but it was worth it. We managed to get in tons of family time, all documented on camera, of course. The videos are mostly the same, but I figured to post them both.

First Trip to Florida

Just a note to our many readers (hi, Christie) to let you know that we are in Florida visiting the family. Mia has been having a blast hanging out with her aunts, uncles, cousins and, of course, her grandparents while I've been very grateful to catch up on some rest and some fun with friends. I even attended a Halloween party. We return to SF Tuesday night and I'll be sure to upload some photos. I even have a little video to share!

XO- Lara

"Fall"ing and Sitting

I think you become a mom and, suddenly, cheesy puns don't seem so horrible to you. On Saturday, David and I took Mia to our neighborhood's Harvest Festival, a little autumn celebration with horse rides, pumpkin decorating, etc. The highlight was an elderly woman who was quite taken by Mia and had the magic touch, getting her to smile easily.

Here she is, responding to the woman (you can see her shirt on the left side of the photo).

She wasn't so interested in the pumpkins, but I tried to drum up some enthusiasm. (On a side note, I swear I'm getting my hair done before Mia graduates from high school.)

And this is the sitting part -- Mia on the Bumbo seat. She likes it only mildly right now, but I sense it will be a favorite in the coming weeks.

Pumpkin Patch -- kind of

We didn't make it to the pumpkin patch -- David has a cold, so we're home today. But here is Mia in an outfit made by Pumpkin Patch, an Australian company. The real pumpkins will be forthcoming.

Mia, Meet the Mobile

She is still not a huge fan of actually sleeping in her crib, but Mia has at least discovered that the mobile hanging above her crib is lots of fun. We hosted play group today, which was great. Right now, it is more about the moms having somebody to talk to about the ins and outs of being a parent, but eventually, the kiddies will be fast friends (we hope).

What Are You Looking At?

We're going to the pumpkin patch on Thursday -- can't wait!

Two Months!

While David and I readily admit that time seems to stand still when Mia is screaming at the top of her lungs during "fussy" periods, realizing that she is two months today makes it seem like time has flown by at warp speed. She had her two month doctor's appointment today -- all is well. She is still a peanut, but is at least gaining and growing at very consistent and healthy rates. She is now nine and a half pounds and twenty-two inches. And our little drama queen, who will wail at pretty much anything mildly upsetting, was quite calm about her shots. Go figure.

A Milestone

Mia started taking the occasional long nap in her swing. Yay! Not quite as great as her sleeping in her bed (which she is getting better at, but only really at night), but I'll take it -- it is better than me dropping my lunch on top of her head while she is hanging out in the Baby Bjorn. Here she is swaddled (apparently she prefers one leg out) and swinging. I know the swaddling blanket looks vaguely like a straitjacket. Whatever gets the job done.

Here is Mia playing around on her activity mat -- I think she looks so different than the photo I took a few weeks ago of her on the same mat. I can't wait for her doctor's appointment on Thursday (except for the shots, of course!) to see how much she has grown.
