While our Northeastern friends dig themselves out of yet another snowstorm, Mia and I counted ourselves lucky and enjoyed a sunny afternoon together. I'm sure we are tempting the rain gods by admitting our good fortunes out loud, but for today we are very grateful.

Getting Ready for Bed and Baby

Tonight, post-bath, Mia and David settled in for some bedtime stories.


After she was tucked in and snoozing soundly, I added some finishing touches to the baby's room next door. It is definitely not the decorated baby wonderland that was Mia's nursery, but it is nonetheless baby-ready (and guest-ready!):


Feeling a bit guilty that it isn't so dolled up this time around, I managed to add a bit of a decorative flourish to the wall:
We have at least a few more weeks before the latest egg hatches (that is indeed what Mia told me happens when one has a baby) and while we've done our best to procrastinate, there appears to be some semblance of preparation going on. Except with respect to the coming sleep deprivation. Not even Mia's bedtime stories are going to help us with that one.

Quite the Pickle

While walking Otter this morning, I noticed this giant jar of pickles on our front gate. Any thoughts? Is there a new prank sweeping the nation involving popular snack foods or perhaps this is a delayed Welcome to the Neighborhood present? Your input is welcome as we try to solve this one...

A Walk in the Park

The Blackberry camera doesn't do it justice, but today is a beautiful day here in sunny Northern California. Otter and I took advantage of the dry weather and headed to nearby Phoenix Lake, where we both enjoyed the scenery.

Movie Madness

Concerned that they might not ever get uploaded if I didn't dig in and just do it already, I've finally sorted through all the video from Disney World and our trip to Florida. Here are five movies from our trip. I realize not all are must-see viewing for anybody other than Mia, who likes to walk down memory lane, but figured I'd post here as a public service in case there are insomniacs among this blog's readers.

My favorite quote comes courtesy of Mia, who upon finally meeting her idol, Cinderella, remarks, "I forgot my gloves!" Fortunately, the princess confirms they are not required attire.

The horse movie is from our second annual trip to Auntie Christie's parents' horse farm. As you can see, the kids had even more fun this year and Mia managed to get up on the horse this time!

Are You Ready For Some Football?

True, this video appears to be one of Mia's many dances. On closer look, however, you may realize that it is, in fact, her interpretation of what a game of football looks like when you watch it on television. And, well, I guess it kind of does.

Purr-fect

This afternoon, I took Mia to a children's theater group's production of Suessical, the Musical, so she thought it appropriate to don some cat ears to be in sync with the play's lead feline character. The Cat in the Hat was a big hit and as Mia looked wide-eyed at the four year-olds on stage (the minimum age for participation in the troupe), post-show, she immediately began planning her own stage debut. Broadway, here she comes!

Here We Are!

After a week of doing apparently nothing blog-worthy (so sorry dear readers!), we hit the Discovery Museum for some Persian dancers this morning. Cousin Cole, along with Aunt Chris and Uncle Brian, were kind enough to join us -- for dancing and the hugs & pizza that followed. In Da Cubs

On a cold winter's day, Mia could be found hanging among the lion cubs (the inanimate variety) at the San Francisco Zoo.

Meal Fit for a Princess

Grammy and Papi left behind their chef's hat from their stint at the Cordon Bleu and Mia was happy to give it a try whilst making her very gourmet dinner of (spinach) pizzas, peas and pears. We only do alliterative meals around these parts.

Getting Back In the Swing of Things

Since returning from Florida this week, Mia and I are slowly adapting to life back in a routine not filled with trips to amusement parks and snuggling with zillions of cousins and relatives. I still have to sort through a ton of video footage from our vacation, but here is a link to Grandma Glasgow's Disney World photos.

A Little Sunshine for the New Year

Almost too late, but alas the sun has arrived. The water was still icy, but we managed to find plenty to occupy us at the beach, including a hefty scoop of mint chocolate chip ice cream.
